Spring 2009 Projects
Angelwish aims to provide the public with an easy way to grant wishes to the millions of children living with HIV/AIDS around the world. The SVC consultants explored the feasibility of expanding Angelwish’s services to accommodate other chronic illnesses by conducting market research on current and potential partners and developing strategies for corporate sponsor outreach.

Children’s Rights Council was established to serve parents, families and children faced with divorce and separation. The SVC consultants assisted CRC in reorganizing its network of 70+ chapters by recommending a sustainable organizational model and accompanying change management processes.

Fathers & Families of San Joaquin, a Stockton, Calif. nonprofit, helps build strong and healthy families by addressing communities’ critical problems of fatherless homes, widespread poverty and inadequate access to public health services. The SVC consultants helped to revamp FFSJ’s stakeholder relations through an updated communications strategy, outreach materials and the planning of a local Father’s Day event.

Fusion Partnerships, based in Baltimore, Md., serves as an incubator and fiscal sponsor for grassroots community-based programs and projects. The SVC consultants assisted Fusion in developing evaluative and tracking tools that will allow the organization to expand its capacity and improve its efficiency.

International Children’s Digital Library provides free online versions of children’s books from around the world in an easy-to-read format on its Web site. The SVC consultants worked to develop a more targeted approach to corporate sponsorship as well as strategies to increase the visibility of its Web site.

Jewish Federation of Greater Washington is a community-building organization that helps people in need, strengthens Jewish identity and fosters connections locally, in Israel and around the world. The SVC team completed a cost reduction analysis for JFGW and provided recommendations to reduce overhead and improve overall efficiency.

The LAMP, a New York City-based nonprofit working to expand media literacy education, was looking to launch an advertising campaign. The SVC consultants researched and recommended a comprehensive social media campaign utilizing Web-based tools including a Facebook application, Twitter, and blogging.

The University of Maryland’s Office of Sustainability (OS) is tasked with the development of a local Carbon Offset Program, an effort that marries student engagement in the community with the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and energy bills in the areas surrounding the University. The SVC consultants worked closely with OS to develop a business plan for a student-run venture. SVC Consultants: Ramik Chopra, Kate Dugan, Hans Scheifele.
Renaissance Youth Bike Shop, a program of the University of Maryland’s Center for Educational Partnership, works to develop healthy individuals and sustainable communities through innovative youth programming. To assist with the bike shop’s plan to develop into a full service, community-based, youth-operated business, the SVC consultants provided it with a road map to operating a self-sustaining business. In addition to a general business plan, the team developed marketing strategies and a one-year schedule of operations with revenue projections and a break-even analysis.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) engages young people in a variety of mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills. The SVC consultants helped FIRST manage its expanding number of relationships with colleges and universities by developing a standardized business development plan that can be easily franchised.
